Welcome Back Picnic Help Needed

Please help out at the CVE Welcome Back Picnic August 27, 4:30--7:00. We need volunteers to man tables for Membership Sign-up, Committee Volunteer Sign-up and Sally Foster Fundraising.

Open Committee Chair Positions

  • Special Education: keeps on top of special needs within/relevant to CVE
  • Hospitality (2 chairs needed): coordinates the donation needs for school events such as Muffins for mom, Donuts for Dad,
  • Back to school night, Teacher appreciation week, American Ed week. and includes set-up and clean up.
  • Multicultural fair (2-3 chairs): coordinating our annual event and oversees performances, foods, crafts, etc.
  • Silent Auction ( 2 chairs): coordinates donations and class baskets for our annual fundraiser. Well attended and supported by CVE.
  • Family Fun (1-2 chairs): coordinated CVE community building events such as Fall Harvest, Movie Night, Family BBQ, bowling night and other family inspired events.
  • Market Day Chair or co-chair: monthly grocery order program. Fliers/circulars are provided each month and need to be distributed, orders are placed though the website and food is delivered once a moth to CVE for parent pick up. The chairs can oversee the process with the help of the MD rep and assist with food pick-up.

Laptop Lunchbox

 

As you start shopping for your back to school supplies, please consider supporting CVEs Green School effort and getting your child(ren) a Laptop Lunchbox. The PTA will be placing a group order on 8/15 - no shipping charges or tax, but not all of the current styles/colors will be available. If you don't know about these great bento box style lunchboxes, or want to see the NEW 2.0 style, you can check out their website at www.laptoplunches.com, or the fan site on Facebook. You can order a whole system, or replacement/extra pieces. Please contact me directly for an order form, or with any questions.

2009 PTA Spirit of Cromwell Award

 

A Quiet Man with a lot of Might – 

Over the years –

with a peek in the Gym –

you stand there mightily watching the kids.

Running; jumping; building skills –

and of course bringing thrills! 

It starts with the youngest –

tying the laces.

And ends with the oldest –

trying your patience! 

But all along –

with your quiet might –

the kids embrace the physical plight. 

The Adventure Gym is all the rage –

an activity to quickly engage.

Young to old they balance and jump –

so as not to fall and avoid the bumps. 

Throughout the years –

you have impressed upon the kids to do their best.

In soccer; basketball; relays; and games –

your students truly have gained! 

We will miss that peek of you standing so quietly –

while awaiting the next crew –

but we wish you well in all you do.

CVE PTA is excited to present Jenny Glazier as guest speaker. An eye opening look at how your child’s nutrition affects their overall well-being

Jenny Glazier is a graduate of Columbia’s Integrated Nutrition Program.  She will be discussing the link between nutrition and school performance, how to decode food labels and will present ways to involve your kids in their nutrition.  Jenny will also offer creative recipes, easy ways to reduce trash in our kids’ lunches and provide a helpful list of resources to take home.  For more information, please take a moment to check out Jenny’s website at www.mamaglazier.com.  There will be opportunity for Q&A following the presentation.

 The Nominating Committee is currently recruiting dedicated men and women to serve in the following elected positions for the 2009-2010 school year: 

 

  • President
  • Vice President – Finance
  • Vice President – Advocacy & Administration
  • Vice President – Programming
  • Treasurer
  • Recording Secretary
  • Corresponding Secretary 

 

We need your talent and input. Please consider sharing your time with a group of dedicated parents and teachers in the important role of child advocate. You may also recommend someone for one of these roles. Feel free to contact us with any questions, comments or recommendations. Elections will be held in May at the last PTA General Meeting for this school year. 

Please join us at the next few PTA Meetings. PTA Meetings are held the 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center.  We would love to see you!

Book Order Form For Upcoming Author Visit

On April 29, 2009, Maryland children’s author Jennifer Keats Curtis will be reading her illustratedchildren’s books and talking with our students about kids’ roles in helping two well-known Bay animals-Diamondback Terrapins and Ospreys.If you would like Ms. Curtis to autograph the books for your children, please write a short message on your order form and include it with payment. Please return the forms by March 10 2009.The order form is attached.
